Laser Hair Removal
Excess facial and body hair is not only a nuisance, it often creates an unsightly cosmetic effect that undermines your confidence. When this occurs, a specialized laser procedure is the ideal solution, permanently eliminating unwanted hair and revealing flawless, silky smooth and more attractive skin.
What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure designed to permanently remove unwanted facial and body hair. It is most commonly used to remove hair on the:
- Bikini line
- Legs
- Underarms
- Face
- Back
- Shoulders
- Abdomen
- Arms
An overview of the procedure
During your Inland Empire laser hair removal procedure, an intense, pulsating beam of light will pass through the skin to each individual hair follicle. The heat will then damage the follicle, inhibiting future hair growth and permanently removing unwanted hair from your face and body.
Complete laser hair removal is accomplished over a series of sessions performed every month or every other month, as multiple sessions ensure that all hairs are subjected to treatment. Typically, patients need between four and seven sessions to achieve optimal results, with ongoing maintenance sessions once or twice a year. However, you may need more or less sessions depending on your skin type, hair color, hair density, hair follicle diameter and the type of laser being used.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
For most patients, laser hair removal is merely uncomfortable at most, due to the heat produced by the laser and the fact that the hair follicles are surrounded by nerve endings. However, the level of discomfort felt will vary depending on your skin type, the thickness and density of your hair, the area of the body being treated and your ability to tolerate pain.
If you find that laser hair removal is in fact too uncomfortable due to a low threshold for pain, numbing cream can be used in some cases. During your initial consultation, your esthetician will advise on whether or not this is an appropriate solution for you.
Are you a candidate for laser hair removal?
As with all of his cosmetic procedures, we determine laser hair removal candidacy on an individual basis, following a thorough discussion of the patient’s cosmetic goals, concerns and desires.
With that said, the ideal candidate for our Inland Empire laser hair removal is an individual with light skin and dark hair so the laser can easily “see” the hair and treat the follicle, without damaging the skin. Conversely, an individual with white or blonde hair is not an ideal candidate for laser hair removal, as it’s difficult for the laser to treat light hair effectively. Also, patients taking the medication Accutane are not eligible for this treatment.
